WWE Wrestlemania 24 - Orlando, Florida - 30-03-08

This years Wrestlemania starts off with John Legend singing America the beautiful. I didn’t watch this it to e honest, I went and made a cup of coffee because I’m not really interested in someone singing.

First match: J.B.L Vs Finlay W Hornswoggle (belfast brawl)

J.B.L Wins by covering Finlay after a clothesline from hell.

VERDICT: 2/5 Good match to start off Wrestlemania. It was quite an aggressive match with chairs, ladders, thrash cans, lids, cookie trays and kendo sticks being used. J.B.L went after Hornswoggle more than once and pretty match kept the match entertaining. Good match!

Second match: CM PUNK Vs Mr. Kennedy Vs M.V.P Vs Shelton Benjamin Vs Carlito Vs John Morrison Vs Chris Jericho (money in the bank match)

CM Punk wins by getting to the brief case first.

VERDICT: 3/5 Wow cool, I never expected CM Punk to win that! This match had plenty of action in it but the only really spectacular fall was from Shelton Benjamin when he fell backwards from the top of a ladder and landed on his back on another ladder outside the ring. It was pretty nail biting because so many of the wrestlers actually got as close as touching the case before someone else foiled them. Matt Hardy came out of the crowd and attacked M.V.P and took him out of the match before running away through the crowd again.

This match had a bit of everything! Brilliant stuff!

Backstage: Snoop dog is being interviewed by Todd Grisham. Snoop has Festus with him and is saying that him and Festus are very alike, Santino Marella interrupts him saying he wants to be in the money in the bank match . Snoop rings a bell and Festus goes wild and chases Santino away. Then Mick Foley appears and makes some fizzle jokes and rings out Mr. Socko.

Third match: Batista Vs Umaga (brand superiority match)

Batista beats Umaga with the Batista bomb.

VERDICT: 0/5 This match sucked in so many way. Mostly it sucked because of Batista though. He looked more like a stiff robot in the ring and didn’t do a good job of selling anything! The only slightly good bit was when he Batista bombed Umaga but he managed to mess that up too because Umaga went off to the side when he picked him up. The U-U-Umaga chants from the crowd were interesting too.

FOOTAGE FROM EARLIER ON: The ECW Battle Royal took place before the live show started so we see the highlights of it. Winner: Kane

Forth match: Chavo Guererro Vs Kane (ECW championship match)

Kane pins Chavo after a chokeslam.

VERDICT: 0/5 This match lasted 5 seconds! Kane came in to the ring behind Chavo while his music was playing, choked slammed Chavo, pinned him and won the match. That was all that happened!

Fifth match: Shawn Michaels Vs Ric Flair (career threatening match)

Shawn Michaels pins Flair after sweet chin music.

VERDICT: 4/5 This was a great match not so much because of the action but because of the emotion involved in it. The match it’s self was pretty slow, mainly because Flair is 59 years old and well past it. Having said that though he put everything he had in to it and Shawn did a great job of making it look convincing too. Just before Shawn super kicked Flair at the end he mouthed ” I’m sorry, I love you” then kicked Flairs head off!

After the match Ric Flair got a standing ovation from the crowd and started crying. It was really emotional and i felt almost honoured to be watching it.

Sixth match: Maria & Ashley Vs Melina & Beth Phoenix (bunny mania match)

Snoop dog comes down in a small golf cart thing along with the lumberjack divas and introduces the match and divas involved.

Beth Phoenix pins Maria after a fishermans suplex.

After the match Snoop Dog kisses Maria and clotheslines Santina Marella.

VERDICT: 0/5 Crap! The only good thing was that Maria got pinned which added some sort of realism to this farce of a match! Half way through the match the lights went out and they were wrestling the match in the dark! Unfortunatley though the lights came back on.

Seventh match: Randy Orton Vs Triple H Vs John Cena

Randy Orton pins John Cena after the R.K.O

VERDICT: 2/5 This was a pretty good match to watch. It was pretty much non stop action from start to finish but i wasn’t really that in to it just because i fully expected either John Cena or Triple H to win. It was a nice surprise when Randy Orton walked away the winner.

Eighth match: The Big Show Vs Floyd Mayweather (no holds barred match)

Floyd Mayweather beats Big Show by knockout.

VERDICT: 1/5 If The Big Show had won this match i would have loved it! Big Show was in total control and was killing Mayweather throughout the match. Some of Mayweathers posse got involved but Big Show soon sorted them out. The ending was shit! Mayweather hit Show a few times with a chair then punched him with a pair of brass knuckles. Big Show went down and couldn’t get back up before the 10 count. After all the hype about this match it was just a load of shit really!

Ninth match: The Undertaker Vs Edge

The Undertaker wins the match by making Edge tap out with his triangle choke submission move.

VERDICT: 5/5 Wow! This match kicked total ass! There was so many near pins that by the end i was a nervous wreck! It was totally amazing! Every time you thought the match was over someone would kick out! Edge was coming up with counters to nearly all the moves The Undertaker would use against him. There was moves coming out of now where, you didn’t know what was going to happen next! The Undertakers submission move came from out of now where too and just like that the match was over. This wasn’t just the best match of the night but one of the most thrilling matches ever!

OVERALL VERDICT: 4/5 It was a very enjoyable night but apart from the Michaels Vs Flair and The Undertaker Vs Edge matches it didn’t really live up to the hype in my opinion. Having said that though it was still head and shoulders above the usual WWE shows.

The Divas farce match, Batista being total shit and the Mayweather debacle brought the show down a lot in my opinion. Wrestlemania would have been a perfect night if it wasn’t for those 3 matches. But buying it was still money well spent.
